Town Fix-It Clinic Saturday, April 27

The Town of Geneva will hold its Spring Fix-It Clinic on Saturday, April 27, from 9 to 1 for town residents at the town highway garage at 32 White Springs Road.

New this year:  Items may be dropped off at the Recycling & Disposal Station at 32 White Springs Road while the station is open, Wednesdays and Saturdays, prior to April 27, and picked up at the clinic on the 27th.

The Town had its first Fix-It Clinic (also known as a Repair Café) in the Fall of 2017 and has held two each year, Spring and Fall, since.  Residents have had clothing and drapes mended, jewelry repaired, toys fixed, tables and chair joints glued back together, lamps, clocks and radios made to work again, and even a dead weed-eater put back in business.  So it’s time again to cheat the landfill out of fuel and let our friendly volunteers take a crack at putting more life into an item that needs help.  Supervisor Mark Venuti explained: “The three Rs to move beyond waste are reduce, reuse and recycle, and a fix-it clinic helps people reuse what might otherwise end up in the trash.”

“We can also always use more handy people to help with repairs, so let us know if you have a skill you’d like to share for a few hours.  Everyone has enjoyed the clinics, volunteers and residents who drop by needing a repair, enjoying each other’s company, and ‘whistling while we work,’” Venuti remarked.

This and like programs are part of the Town’s efforts to help residents prepare for the closing of the county landfill and foster sustainable living.
